ALUMNAE GATHERING
October 31, 2007
at the New York Athletic Club
Aquinas High School had a wonderful ‘first’ on Tuesday, October 30. It was an evening at the New York Athletic Club arranged by club member Kathleen Rooney O’Brien ’62 and attended by about fifty alumnae spanning the decades from the fifties to the current time.
Sr. Margaret Ryan welcomed everyone and narrated the PowerPoint presentation which mingled scenes of Aquinas yesterday and today, highlighting fundamental belief statements affirmed by the school community.
Stephanie Rodriguez and Devaneke Crumpler ’08 spoke about their Aquinas experience and all that their sponsors’ generosity had make available to them.
Sr. Catherine Rose Quigley gave some insights into the process of renewal of accreditation by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools which Aquinas has just successfully completed.
The evening was a happy combination of old ties and a new setting. The general feeling was “Let’s do it again!”
A REFURBISHED

NEW VISION TO
YOUNG ARTISTS AT AQUINAS
.
.
The art studio at Aquinas has been transformed and the creations coming
forth testify to the effects of environment upon learning and

We believe that women's strengths and women's voices have a vital role in today's complex and changing world...
This conviction underlies our hopes for the graduates of Aquinas High School. As we begin the 2007-2008 school year, we ask that you recommit yourselves to the mission and beliefs of Aquinas. By your gift, please help us to achieve our goal of for this year. The Annual fund will provide: tuition support for needy students, ongoing refurbishment of the building, upgrading of technology, and expansion of math and science programs. Thank you for lending your voice and your support to the mission of Aquinas.
Aquinas counts on the support of alumnae. Year after year, important goals are reached because generous gifts supplement the income which tuition provides.
The $375,000 we seek this year will fund tuition grants for needy students, provide lap-top computers for use in the classroom, and continue renovation of the building exterior.
The Annual Campaign ends on June 30. If you have not already done so, please send a gift within your means to share in the mission of Aquinas today.

MAREN GRANT
ACHIEVES VITAL GOAL:
TECHNOLOGY ACROSS THE
CURRICULUM

When the Thomas H. Maren
Foundation funded the Integration of Technology Program at Aquinas High School in April, 2003, its goal was to assure that every student would
further her technology skills in every discipline. The fruits of the grant are evident
across the curriculum. A glimpse of just a few student projects gives an
inkling of the impact of this initiative...
SCIENCE LABS TRANSFORMED BY
RECORD-MAKING KNUEVEN GRANT

(l. to r.) Sr.
Catherine Rose Quigley, Sr. Margaret Ryan, Georgia & Gerald Knueven, and Sr. Maryann Summa, President of the
Dominican Sisters of Sparkill
Aquinas High School celebrated the dedication of its 21st
Century Science Center on October 20, 2004. All of the Aquinas school
community joined in celebrating a dream-come-true through the generosity
of the Knueven Family Foundation. This past summer the chemistry, physics
and earth science labs were completely transformed from the inside out.
New wiring and plumbing reached deep into walls and floors, and flat panel
work stations and beautiful cabinets provided a sleek, new xterior. While
the physical plant was being renewed, so were the science teachers.
Veritas Friends Award: May 9, 2007
The Veritas Friends Award is presented annually to Aquinas benefactors whose support has had a significant impact on sustaining the excellence and securing the future of the school.

Aquinas build a great foundation for me....College was much easier because of my preparation at Aquinas...I definitely felt I was well prepared and at ease when it came to hitting the books!...Freshman year of college was so much easier because of the exposure to information and preparation...Aquinas was my foundation and helped me with all my subjects, especially with English and Math...My professors were impressed!...I truly love this school and I appreciate how much the people in this building have done for me. |

WAYS TO HELP
.
Just as alumnae are proud
of their Alma Mater, Aquinas is proud of the accomplishments of its
alumnae throughout and beyond the United States. The generosity of
alumnae is a major support of Aquinas' mission to the young women of New
York City today.
.
Career Forum
The Sophomore Class participates in the Future Options Forum each year.
Students have the opportunity to meet with panelists and receive information
and suggestions in career areas of their choice. Most of the panelists
are alumnae, and the forum and luncheon which follows provide a gathering
of Aquinas women making a difference in many paths of life. The 2007
Future Option Forum is held each year in March. If you would like to share your career experience and offer suggestions
to Aquinas 10th graders, please call the school Development Office.
Panelists are assured of a great welcome from an enthusiastic group
of young women.

AQUINITES AROUND THE WORLD

.
Have you ever wondered what life was
like outside the United States? Have you ever wanted to learn another
language while being immersed in a culture completely different from
your own? Well, you will be amazed to know that several students here at
Aquinas have accomplished all those things and more by participating in
Summer Study Abroad Programs.

Aquinas
Welcomes
FIRST LADY
.
You might have thought
"What could top this?" when Aquinas appeared on the cover
of U.S. News & World Report's issue on outstanding schools, or when
the Blue Ribbon of Excellence was awarded to Aquinas for the second
time. But just imagine being a student in the Aquinas auditorium when
Sr. Margaret Ryan walked to the podium and said "Please rise and
greet the First Lady of the United States of America!"
